Hello - We would like to invite you (& your family!) to a special potluck picnic at our farm on August 4th from 1:30 to 5pm

.  We are inviting friends we know from several of the area churches we have visited with in the past few years.  It has long been a desire of ours to see brothers & sisters in Christ join together for fellowship & enjoy one another's company.  We had hosted the church picnic for Hope Presbyterian a couple of times a few years ago and it was a blessing to fellowship together on a tranquil New Durham Ridge, overlooking the White Mountains.

Here's a bit on how this came about:  On August 3rd we are hosting a wedding for the daughter of a friend of ours.  They are having a tent set up along with tables & chairs.  We thought, "hmmmm, the tent is here until Aug.6th, why not put it to more use".  So we started thinking and praying and dreaming about the idea.  I had lunch with Pastor Steve Magee in Exeter recently and he was pretty enthusiastic about it.  While talking, I mentioned we may have a hymn sing or something similar.  We had done them at the Hope picnics & they went over well.  Steve thought that was okay, but why not have a speaker instead, who people in the area would know and like to hear.  He suggested Marian Noronha.  Many of you know Marian as the owner of Turbocam.  Marian has also been involved in buying people's freedom in Nepal (early 2000's) and lately in helping these same people set up micro businesses, schools, etc in Nepal.  We thought it would be edifying to hear Marian's testimony as well.  I have spoken with Marian & he is quite excited about coming.  He plans to speak on "Having a Gospel Centered Vision - All the Rest is Just Tactics".  We would very much like you to attend!

As I said, we plan to start @ 1:30ish.  Marian will speak @ 2:30.  Plan to stay as late as you wish!  As hosts, we will provide the venue, the tent, chairs, drinks & paper products.  We were envisioning a pot-luck where everyone could bring something to eat & share.  We don't plan to coordinate the food, we'll just trust it all works out!  (deserts always should have 1st priority!)  We would like to get a rough count, so if you could RSVP by about the 1st that would be great.  BUT - feel free to drop in even if you haven't RSVP'd or don't have anything to contribute to the pot luck.  We want folks to be feel welcome no matter what.

We have a big yard; lots of room for kids to play frisbee, fly kites, etc. and room to spread out.  You may want to bring a sweater (if overcast it can be cooler), bug spray (usually not a problem as we almost always have a breeze), and lawn chairs; we have a few, but not enough for all!  We are surrounded by acres of wild blueberries, it's a fairly pastoral setting.  We have plenty of parking on the lawn & along the drive.  I'll attach a map for those of you who need directions.  Feel free to call me on my cell if you have any questions. Again, we would be blessed to have you come and share the afternoon with us.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT MEN’S PRAYER AND STUDY:

As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another (Proverbs 27:7). Starting in September on Wednesday nights at 7 PM, Pastor Nathan Snyder will be leading a new men’s group. We will spend time praying for and with one another, and we will also be going through a study of the Westminster Confession of Faith. He Confession contains a rich treasure of biblical teaching on many important matters. We will consider what the Bible teachers us about God, creation, sin, God’s plan of salvation accomplished through Christ and applied by the Holy Spirit, how we receive this salvation, how we can know we are saved, Christian obedience, Christian freedom, the role of civil government, the Church, baptism and communion, life after death, the final resurrection and judgment, and more. This should be a great time of prayer, fellowship, study and discussion. The location is yet to be determined based on who is interested in participating and where they live. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

First Presbyterian Church of Concord is in desperate need of people to help with renovations on their new building. The Seventh Day Adventist Church where they are currently meeting for worship is soon going to raise their rent. They are already paying rent on top of the mortgage for their new building. So they are hoping to start meeting in the new building in September. But there is much work left to get the place ready! They are welcoming anyone who would like to come up and help any Saturday during August, and maybe even during the week .This is a great opportunity for us to serve our brothers and sisters! AN ANSWER TO PRAYER AND A PRAISE:

Tom Powell has been called to be the resident pastor to two churches on the islands of Great Cranberry and Islesford, Maine! Tom and Becca will begin this adventure in September, and there are many details that must be taken care of before they leave. Please continue to pray as these details include finishing remodeling of the parsonage! Tom and Becca have sought God’s direction for months, and He has led them to this exciting ministry in Maine!

This Coming Week at EPC

Sunday School for All Ages: 9:30AM

The Cousers will again be teaching Sunday School for children this fall. They will continue the historical books of the Old Testament which prepare us for Jesus as our Prophet, Priest, and King.

In Adult Sunday School this week, Pastor Magee will continue our course in Humility. Our topic this Sunday is “Responding Humbly to Trials.”

Church Dinner This Week

Because of Labor Day, our Church Dinner will be this Sunday after church. In October we will return to our normal first of the month schedule.

Fall Schedule

Daily Worship – Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday mornings at 9am

Resuming Tuesday, September 6^th. We meet for about 35 minutes in the morning to sing, pray, and hear God's Word. Between now and Thanksgiving we will be going through the Old Testament book of Numbers.

Women's Study – Tuesday mornings at 10am at the Magees in Stratham

Resuming Tuesday, September 13^th. This group gathers for fellowship, prayer, and study. This year we will read War of Words by Paul David Tripp. The group is led by Candy Magee.

Women's Praise and Prayer – Wednesday evenings at 6:30pm

Inviting all EPC women to join us the first and third Wednesdays of the month from 6:30 to 8:00 pm upstairs at the church for Praise and Prayer, beginning October 5th. We will be lifting up our voices in song to the Lord and in prayer for our church and community. Facilitated by Janet Rorhdanz, Debbi Schaeffer, and Nancy DeBaun.

Bible Survey Class – 2 Sections: Thursdays at 9am and 3pm

Resuming Thursday, September 15^th. Pastor Magee will lead us in the study of the Old Testament Wisdom literature and the Old Testament Prophets.

Theology Class – Thursday afternoons at 4pm

Dave Herrod will lead this new course beginning Thursday, September 15^th. Focusing on the most central doctrines of the Christian faith, we will explore important biblical passages. Our aim is to grow in our faith and to communicate the core of Christianity to others.

An EPC Pictorial Directory

Jon and Yvette Couser have kindly offered to produce a new EPC directory with pictures. Over the next few weeks they will be taking pictures of those of you who wish to participate. This will help us all to remember the names of those who are new to the congregation.

Prayer for Missionaries

In the first few minutes of Sunday School we have been highlighting one or more of our missionary concerns. This week we will pray for the Gildards, serving in France.

We will provide more details there about the following items that Jamie sent to us recently:

1. The Gospel Chorale's open air concert went off better than we could have hoped.

2. Jamie's vertigo is nearly gone.

3. Three new contacts for the university ministry. Please pray that they become part of the group.

4. Evangelist Luis Palau comes to Marseille at end of June.

5. Summer interns arrive for outreach to middle school kids and to their host families.

MOTHER'S DAY FLOWERS

Our Mercy Ministry focus is Birthright of Portsmouth, which offers counseling and aid to women experiencing unexpected pregnancies. Each Mother's Day, we provide carnations after the morning service as a fund-raising benefit for this worthy organization. The minimum suggested donation is $1 for each flower, although you may be as generous as you like!

We are also asking for donations of diapers - particularly in the larger sizes. Each year Birthright has been very grateful for the added blessing of our church's giving in this way to the women of the greater Portsmouth area.

WELCOME TO DAVE AND PAM HERROD'S NEWEST BLESSING!

Please rejoice with the Herrod family on the birth of Elisabeth Lee Morgan, born early on May 4th. Elisabeth weighed 7 pounds, 14 ounces. Mother and baby are both doing well. Please pray for recovery for Anne, who delivered by c-section.

FREE BOOKS!

We are reducing our inventory of pastoral and Christian books as we continue to make improvements on the second floor. Many of these books have been donated by publishers, bookstores, or other friends. Some of the volumes are excellent titles that are duplicates of what we already have in our Pastor’s library. Others have never been read, so we cannot vouch for their content. During the next few Sundays take some time to look through the available titles. Anything that is not taken over the next month will be disposed of or given away to another organization.

MISSIONARY VISIT THIS SUNDAY

Pam and Steve Hill will be with us during the Sunday School hour this Sunday, February 13^th. The Hills have served for many years as missionaries with Africa Inland Mission. After serving for several years in the United States, they are now preparing to return to southern Africa with One Heart International Mission. (Internet site: http://oneheartint.weebly.com/members.html) This is our first year of supporting the Hills, and it is a great privilege having them present their work to us this Sunday. Pam Hill is Penny O'Connor's sister! We believe that each of the members of our congregation has been brought by God to serve Him at EPC in particular. Your connections in missions and ministry are important to us. Do you have someone on your heart that we need to know about? Please let one of the Deacons know.

BAPTISM THIS SUNDAY

We welcome Natalie Hope O'Connor into our church family. Natalie will be baptized in the morning service. We look to see this little gift of God grow in faith and obedience as a committed life-long follower of Jesus Christ. As we welcome her according to the Lord's sacrament, remember that we who have been baptized are to follow the Lord, who has cleansed us with His blood.

PRAYERS FOR THE CRAFT FAMILY

We received word last night that Joel's father passed away on Wednesday. Please pray for the Craft family as they travel to Illinois for the funeral on Saturday. The Crafts plan to be back with us in two weeks. We pray for God's comfort and for travel mercies.

UPDATE ON LYN DORAN

Lyn is recovering well from her knee replacement surgery. Her husband George is serving as her coach in this process. He reports that she is proving to be the trooper that we all know she is.

TIM SKETCHLEY IN AFGHANISTAN

Please keep Tim Sketchley in your prayers as he serves with the Marines in Afghanistan. Tim has just begun this tour of duty. Upon his return, he and his fiancee, Kim Johnson, will be married in Florida. Pastor Magee will be officiating. Tim is the brother of Nate Sketchley, who worships with us every Sunday. Nate, Tim, and their other brother, Zach, are all Marines. Their sister, Rachel, is finishing her education in Florida, and has expressed a desire to return to New Hampshire after completing her schooling.

FALL 2010 MINISTRY STARTS THIS SUNDAY!

SUNDAY SCHOOL FOR KIDS AT 9:30am

Jon and Yvette Couser will be leading the young people of the church this year using the theme “Christ the King.”

There will be two classes, one for the older students (generally above age 12), and one for a wide range of younger children. Both groups will explore the Biblical account of Saul and David beginning with 1 Samuel.

WEEKDAY MORNING WORSHIP – MONDAYS, TUESDAYS, WEDNESDAYS, 9-9:30am

Pastor Magee will begin with Genesis 1 on Monday morning.

WOMEN'S STUDY – TUESDAYS, 10am and 6:30pm

Candy Magee will lead a study of Jerry Bridges' book, The Practice of Godliness, meeting at the Magee home at 1 Butterfield Lane, #3, in Stratham.

Dearly beloved, we are gathered here in the presence of God and each other to publicly acknowledge the joining together of this man and this woman in holy matrimony.

Marriage is an ordinance of God from the beginning of time, that according to his direction, a "man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh." (Genesis 2:24) God created us male and female, and he determined in the beginning of time that it was not good for the man to be alone. His kind provision for Adam was expressed in the creation of the woman, who was a helpmate for him. One who was like him in some ways, and yet different from him in other ways, with the two forming a wonderful partnership of love and service.

Throughout the ages of human history, God has provided men and women as special lifelong partners for one and other. Together they are to pursue what is good and right and honoring to Him. A man from one family and a woman from another family are joined together to create a new household.

It has been God's good pleasure that marriage would be the building block of all human society. But it has another solemn purpose. It is to be a living illustration of the greatest spiritual reality, the special love of a Promise-Keeping God for His faithful and obedient people. As God's Love for his people is from before all time and reaches into eternity, the love of a man and a woman in marriage is to be a complete and lasting commitment, until death parts the two that have been made one.

Kathleen & John, have you h come here on this day to make a public promise and commitment to each other as husband and wife?

Most holy and most merciful Father, the God of nature and of grace, creator, preserver and redeemer of mankind, fill these, your servants with a sense of the solemnity of the vows they are about to make. FIELD TRIP TO SANDY POINT IN STRATHAM SATURDAY, AUGUST 21ST

Steph Rohrdanz writes regarding her series of fun activities for the church:

“This month, I picked Great Bay Discovery Center/Sandy Point Trail in Stratham. It’s on the 21st, and we’ll meet in the parking lot at the center at 10:00. The trail is pretty short, so we’ll definitely be done by noon. Here’s the directions: Take Depot Road off of Route 33 in Stratham and follow it to the end. At the stop sign, there is a brown and white sign that says Disovery Center. Turn left, and the center is right after the railroad tracks.”

LADIES MEETING FOR CHURCH MEAL PLANNING

“There will be a meeting on Sept. 11th at 10:00 AM at the church to plan for the family meal themes for next year and for the food for the Presbytery meeting which will be at EPC in October. Hope you can make it.”

PAINTING THIS SATURDAY AT THE CHURCH

Would you like to be part of a small group of church painters gathering at the church from 10 through noon this Saturday (8/14)? We are trying to get the foyer done in time for Abby Meadows' wedding on August 21^st. Painting days are a great opportunity to spend time together and to get something practical done for the church. Thanks for all your help!

SPEAKING OF SATURDAY MORNINGS – MEN'S DISCIPLESHIP

Three of the men of the church have been meeting weekly on Saturday mornings to pray and encourage each other in the Word. If more men want to do this, we are happy to make room for you. We meet from 8am-9am on the second floor of the church. Come and join us any Saturday morning to find out more.

PRESBYTERY MISSIONS CONFERENCE – NOVEMBER 5-6, 2010

Mark your calendar now and be sure to attend this year's Missions Conference. It will be held at the Bedford Community Church in Bedford NH. Speakers will include Dr. Michael Milton, President of Reformed Theological Seminary in Charlotte, Missionary Hong Key Chung serving in Bucharest Romania, and Mary Bell from Romanian Christian Enterprises (RCE).

One of our PCA churches in Boston, CityLife, is putting out a CD with classic hymns set to new tunes. By the way, their drummer is Andrew DeBaun, John and Nancy's son.

BIRTHRIGHT RECRUITING VOLUNTEERS

A New Volunteer Coffee will be held at Birthright on September 22^nd at 9:30 am. Birthright provides pro-life counseling services, pregnancy testing, and practical assistance to women in need.

In their newsletter for the Portsmouth location at 323 Islington Street, Birthright shares these words of encouragment to those who would consider volunteering:

“All you need is a willingness to listen, a commitment to life, loving the woman and her baby, and a desire to help those in need without judgment.”

EPC was mentioned in the recent newsletter for your contributions of baby clothing and diapers. Also noted were Hope Presbyterian in Portsmouth and four Catholic parishes including St. Michael's in Exeter.

COUSER MOVE AND NEW CASTLE BEACH DAY BOTH A SUCCESS

Many thanks to all those who helped with the Cousers' move last Saturday. Everything was in good order, making the efforts of our team of helpers from the church relatively swift and painless. Steph Rohrdanz also reports that the families that came out for the day at the beach had an enjoyable time together.

Would you like to be part of a small group of church painters gathering at the church from 10 through noon for the next two Saturdays (8/7 and 8/14)? We are trying to get the foyer done in time for Abby Meadows' wedding on August 21^st. Painting days are a great opportunity to spend time together and to get something practical done for the church. COME HELP THE COUSER FAMILY MOVE

Can you come to the Cousers at 8am on THIS SATURDAY, July 31^st ? We need men and women who can help us load up the truck at 53 Moharimet Drive, Madbury (their old address), and unload at 69 Newton Plains Road, Lee (their new address, only 1.3 miles away). Many hands make light work, and it also helps us to enjoy some time together. Women are especially invited to help with cleaning the house and taking care of Vivia.

Attention SURFERS!

Christian Surfers US is in the process of forming a New Hampshire Chapter!

CS is looking to bring together a core group of 6-8 Christian surfers as co-leaders of the NH Chapter.

The core group will be made up of guys and gals of different ages and representing multiple churches but all holding to the CS doctrinal statement (seewww.christiansurfers.com).

If you have a heart for loving, serving and sharing Jesus with other surfers and wave-riders, pray about being a part of this mission to the surfing community.

PAINTING PARTIES ON FREE SATURDAY MORNINGS THIS SUMMER

Pastor Magee invites you to join him and others to finish up our painting projects on Saturday mornings from 9am to noon, unless we have some other events going on (like July 31^st). We are hosting a wedding reception for our friends from Calvary Baptist Church on August 21^st. Let's see how many improvement projects we can finish before then!

Is there something you can do for a friend in need, or in service to your community? Would it help to have a friend with you, serving alongside you? Let us know, and maybe we can put the need in the EPC Newsletter, or find a service partner for you in some other way.

TRAINING FOR CHOOSING AND BEING CHRISTIAN SERVANT-LEADERS

Throughout the summer we will be addressing topics in Adult Sunday School that will prepare you to serve others and to identify those in the church who should be encouraged to use their gifts of leadership. If you are not already attending Sunday School at 9:30am, would this be a good time to start? We will also be concluding our study of heaven, and our longer-term classes on questions about foundational Christian doctrine. Come join us. All ages are welcome. Youth Sunday School will start up again in the Fall. More details to come.

FAMILY DAY AT NEW CASTLE BEACH

Thank you, Steph Rohrdanz, for taking the initiative to plan a fun summer activity! On Saturday, July 31, we will have a family day at New Castle Beach beginning at 10:00 am. Ask Steph for more details. By the way, we are planning a number of family/youth activities for the summer and into the fall. If you would like to be involved in the planning for those events, just let us know!

BIBLE SURVEY CLASSES STARTING IN THE FALL

Our three-year Bible Survey class is back again! We will start a new round in September with Genesis, the first book of the Bible. Our morning class meets at the church on Thursdays from 9-10am, and our afternoon class is from 3-4pm. The afternoon class will be followed by the third and final year of our theology class 4-5pm. All ages are welcome in any of these classes! Bring a friend who wants to study the Bible or Christian theology. Anyone can come.

We are extremely grateful for all your help and encouragement in our move to New York. Thank you to all who helped with the move - we can't imagine trying to load the truck and clean without your help! You did a great job - everything arrived safely and the condo looked great. Thank you also for the framed picture with all the precious notes. It is a very special reminder of all the blessings of your friendship that we have enjoyed and hope to continue to enjoy. We are also very grateful for your most generous gift.

We will most certainly miss not being among you each Lord's Day, but are very glad that Christ's church extends throughout the earth - and beyond!
